The purpose of writing/speaking is to communicate. Certainly there is often an aesthetic component to writing, but the bottom line is that if it doesn't communicate to the hearer what you intended to communicate then you need to change something. So in some ways, spelling, and grammar can be superfluous. If a writer mispells words and uses bad grammer, but the hearer always understands what the speaker is saying, then we have to say that they are communicating effectively. The purpose of communication is to communicate, not to have good grammar unless the grammar is preventing good communication.
From that perspective then I think these 6 assessments are right on target because they address the effectiveness of the communication; Logic, clarity, focus, and reader response. I don't see a need to change or add anything to these evaluations.
The second question ask how I would use blogs with my students who are all Juniors and Seniors in high-school. I think they would use it and it could be valuable. But I'm not sure that 25 individual blogs are a good thing, or would even be interesting, or even interesting to the students. They are already doing this in Facebook, which is kind of a blog really if you think about it. I think a Class Blog where each student individually would write and post to the community blog would probably be more interesting to the students. But this raises another questions: What is the difference between Facebook and a Blog really, when you boil it down, aren't they the same thing? Do we need Blogs in a Facebook world?
